Closing and Delay Information

School Closing, Delay, & Early Release Procedures

The decision to close, delay, or release school early is rarely an easy one and one we do not take lightly.  When making our decision we consult with a number of knowledgeable resources including county and state highway officials, law enforcement personnel, other area school corporations, and experienced school bus drivers.  Our goal is to make an informed decision while keeping our students safe.

SCHOOL CLOSING

Schools will be closed all day.  All afterschool and evening activities are canceled unless otherwise announced.  This includes all practices, contests, games, matches, meets, events, facility rentals, etc.

TWO HOUR DELAY

Two hour delays are often used to allow FCCSC staff and contractors to clear parking lots and sidewalks; ensure all buses are running; and to make sure facilities are heating properly.  A delay also provides time for county and state highway crews to clear and/or treat roads.

When FCCSC operates on a two-hour delay, bus pick-up times will be delayed by two (2) hours.  There will be NO morning preschool on two-hour delay days.

EARLY RELEASE

In the case of impending weather or other “emergency” situations, schools may be released one (1), two (2), or three (3) hours early.  Brookville Elementary, Laurel School, and Mt. Carmel School students will be transported home, then Franklin County High School and Franklin County Middle School students will be transported home.

In the event that schools are released early, all afterschool and evening activities are canceled unless otherwise announced.  This includes all practices, contests, games, matches, meets, events, facility rentals, etc.

The FCCSC provide multiple modes of notification to parents, guardians, and employees, regarding school closings, two hour delays, and early releases.

Attendance

If school is open students are expected to be in attendance.  In some extreme conditions, school officials may determine that a specific road, roads, or route cannot run due to hazardous road conditions.  In this event, affected students will be counted as an Exempted Absence.
