February 2024 Support Staff of the Month
Director of Operations, Mr. Keith Isaacs, is pleased to announce that Mr. Shane McPherson has been selected as February’s “Support Staff of the Month.”
Shane is a custodian at Laurel Elementary and has been in this position for 20 years.
Shane was nominated for this honor by two staff members. When asked why Mr. McPherson should be considered for this recognition, they responded, “Shane is always willing to help in ANY situation, whether that be cleaning up a mess or watching a class while a teacher takes their own restroom break. He jumps in without being asked. He is always smiling and making jokes, which makes any kind of work day better. I am specifically making this nomination because of what I came into over the summer. I decided to make a week night trip over the summer to the school to drop a few things off. I texted Shane before going to make sure I was allowed in our hallway. He quickly texted back that I was welcome to come in because my classroom was done. I was shocked when I walked into my classroom. Not only had he cleaned my room over the summer, but he arranged my room as if nothing had ever been moved. My desks were back in rows, my rolling carts were back in their spots, and my rugs were exactly where I had them before. Shane pays attention to the little details, even with every classroom and teacher in our building being different. He builds positive relationships with the staff and keeps our rooms looking wonderful! Shane is greatly appreciated at LES!”
Laurel Elementary principal, Shannon New stated, “Shane is very hardworking and dedicated to LES. He does anything that is asked of him and often takes care of issues before they even happen. He not only cares for the students, but he also cares for the staff. He hates recognition!!! However, I could not do this job without him “
Outside of work, Shane enjoys being outdoors and spending time with my family and grandchildren.
When asked what the best part of his job is, Mr. McPherson stated, “ I really enjoy the people that I work with. At Laurel we are a family. I also love working with the students. The connection I have with students is important to me. I enjoy watching the students grow throughout the year.
