Superintendent, Ms. Tammy Chavis, is pleased to announce that Mrs. Teri Hornberger, Agriculture Teacher and FFA Advisor at Franklin County High School, has been selected as September’s “Educator of the Month.”

Mrs. Hornberger has been teaching for Franklin County Community Schools for five years, but has been in education for over ten. Teri has a master’s degree in reading/literacy and early childhood education. Aside from teaching, Teri is a volunteer for 4-H and a member of the Farm Bureau Board.

Teri was nominated for this honor by several students. When asked why Mrs. Hornberger should be considered for this recognition, they responded, “She stands out from other educators by the way that she builds connections with her students. Mrs. Hornberger makes sure that every student is working to the best of their ability and adapts to fit their needs. She always helps anyone who needs it and does anything to make us feel free to discuss anything with an open mind and willingness to change for the better of her students. Mrs. Hornberger genuinely cares for every student like they are her own child. She invites new members to get involved in FFA for career opportunities and leadership skills. We have a community service project every month to help members in need and young people in the community become more educated on agriculture and how to support one another in a rural community. Some say FFA is just for farm kids, but Mrs. Hornberger has truly worked so hard to show everyone in the school corporation and community that we are much more than that. We have a very tight and supporting organization that likes to have fun but also work together to accomplish great things in life. To say Mrs. Hornberger is determined and dedicated is an understatement. She has truly made me a better person and I feel that Mrs. Hornberger is the most deserving educator for this award.”

When not at school, Teri enjoys binge watching Grey’s Anatomy or Yellowstone, shopping, gardening, and spending time with family.

When asked what she loves most about her job, Mrs. Hornberger responded, “Building meaningful relationships with my students and sharing my passion for agriculture with not only my students but others. Teaching is never boring and this is one career where you can make a difference even with the small successes. The small wins always have a way of turning into big moments in life.”
The purpose of the “Educator of the Month” program is to recognize outstanding Franklin County educators who demonstrate excellence in the classroom, leadership in the school, dedication to the students, and involvement in the community.
